How did you get a job at SimplyCast?

My first role at SimplyCast was through an 8 month "Corporate Residency" while completing my MBA at Dalhousie University.

Which educational institution did you graduate from and what did you study?

I did my Bachelor of Commerce at Mount Allison (Honours in Marketing) and my MBA at Dalhousie (focus on Marketing and Strategic Management). I finished my MBA in May 2013 and have been working here ever since (after taking a summer to backpack Southeast Asia).

How did you hear about SimplyCast?

SimplyCast is one of Dalhousie's "employer partners" for the Corporate Residency MBA Program. I met Saeed at a few different networking events for the program, and was thrilled to see SimplyCast had posted a Corporate Residency position.

What made you want to join the SimplyCast team?

I was really attracted to the culture at SimplyCast and loved that the company hires young people right out of school and empowers them with important projects. Location also played a big role as I really wanted to stay in Nova Scotia and the company is dedicated to creating jobs here.

What would you like to gain from working at SimplyCast? What have you gained during your time here?

I've learned more than I thought possible during my time here. Like every new grad, my original goal was to gain experience on my resume, but I've learned a lot of other skills that aren't even directly related to my role: interpersonal, management, strategic planning, and even technical skills are a few of the more prominent ones.

How would you explain what SimplyCast does?

SimplyCast helps organizations simplify and streamline communications with their stakeholders. By automating certain aspects of the communication process and providing support to employees for those "human touch" components, SimplyCast helps companies ensure their stakeholders are nurtured with personalized, targeted content on their preferred mode of communication.

What's your vision for SimplyCast?

SimplyCast's vision is to be the world's best Customer Flow Communication platform. A little company from Nova Scotia is now playing with the big boys in the valley. It does wonders for our province and helps keep jobs at home.

Would you recommend SimplyCast to others?

Absolutely!

What would you tell an applicant considering SimplyCast for an employment opportunity?

I would tell them to check out our culture online and mention their love of foosball, game tournaments, potlucks and so on in their interview.

What classes or training helped prepare you for working at SimplyCast?

SimplyCast is a really unique, dynamic environment. Nothing really prepares you for it like getting thrown into a project on Day 1. Obviously, certain classes provide the technical backbone you'll need to complete project work, but heading up a project in an open-office environment is best learned by doing.

How does SimplyCast differ from other employers you have worked for?

SimplyCast is fun! We work hard, but we play hard as well and you can always take a break to catch a game of foosball. The culture is definitely very unique, and everyone is friendly and approachable so you can always find guidance if you need it.

Can you walk us through a day in the life of a SimplyCast employee?

This one is tough because every day is different. Everyone finds their own routine for operational tasks, but we're always working on new projects so the nature of the work shifts.

How does SimplyCast celebrate failures and/or successes?

SimplyCast celebrates both successes and failures, usually with pizza and ice cream cake for everyone! In a tech company, you need to take risks to make it big, so we celebrate failures in addition to successes so that people aren't scared to take risks and bring their ideas to life.

What is your proudest moment at SimplyCast?

My proudest moment was probably seeing our Reseller Model, which I helped develop during my work term at SimplyCast, being successfully rolled out on six different continents.
