In 2021, SMS providers in the United States started the transition to ten-digit longcodes (10DLC) for the purposes of application-to-person (A2P) communication. Prior to this change in industry standard, shared shortcodes and sending numbers were commonly used within the SimplyCast platform.
On March 1, 2022, any business or organization in North America using an application (such as SimplyCast’s SMS application) will no longer be able to send SMS messages to recipients in the United States due to the 10DLC provider regulations unless they have at least one of the following:
- A shortcode keyword
- A dedicated phone number registered to their brand and an approved use case
Without either of these, SMS messages will simply be blocked for sending to the United States.
You will also be required to register your brand with the SMS distributor.
Benefits of using a dedicated phone number with the SimplyCast application include better overall deliverability, and the ability to support higher messaging volumes and speeds.
Important:
With the implementation of 10DLC, it is important to note that additional costs may be applied to the use of SimplyCast’s SMS application, including costs for brand and campaign registration, which SimplyCast will work with clients to set up. Existing clients should reach out to their account manager or contact account.manager@simplycast.com if they do not know who their account manager is.
