Utility Loss Response

Hospitals and other medical facilities must be prepared for the potential for crucial utilities to go down and need to be able to respond efficiently when they do. While back-ups may be in place, a clear and well-organized process allows hospital administrators to streamline the way they respond to these emergencies.

SimplyCast presents the idea of the Code Grey use case, a complete solution designed to improve the way medical institutions respond to a loss of critical infrastructure.

The solution is intended to be used by hospital administrators in order to minimize the risks involved with a utility going down.

The Improved Code Grey Process

SimplyCast has anticipated the need for hospitals to have a streamlined process for managing the code grey emergency response.

Within this process, there are five main steps to follow – three for administrators, and two for staff.

Administrators – Step 1

Administrators start the process by launching a Code Grey emergency event and launching the initial alert task. This will send the notification to all relevant stakeholders that there is an issue with one or more utilities within the facility.

Staff – Step 1

Staff receive the initial alert and respond as required by standard procedure or as instructed to in the alert. By sending a response to this alert, this lets administrators know who has been made aware of the situation and who may need to be reached out via another method.

Administrators – Step 2

When administrators need more information from staff, they can send a live survey to collect that information quickly. Live surveys are an efficient way for respondents to provide the necessary information back to administrators easily and efficiently.

Staff – Step 2

When the live survey comes in, staff will either select a multiple-choice option or submit a long-form response, based on the type of survey. These responses can then be reviewed by administrators as they come in in near-real time.

Administrators – Step 3

When the utility is restored, administrators can send an “all clear” notification to staff. After the “all clear,” administrators can then examine reports in order to review the success of the emergency response.
