Meet Victor – a Halifax native with a passion for racket sports and creating delicious food who is counted among SimplyCast's honored alumni.
As skilled with development as he is cooking, Victor sought his future in technology at Dalhousie University, studying towards a Bachelor of Informatics when he first encountered SimplyCast as a co-op student in September of 2011.
"When I joined SimplyCast, it was small, mighty, and growing," Victor recalls. "I don't think there were more than twenty people at the time." Like all co-op students, he sought to advance his development skills through hands-on experience, which SimplyCast was proud to offer. "I remember really enjoying the environment," Victor said, reminiscing about his first few days on the team. "Every project was a team building experience and each person was happy to come, work together, and learn from each other."
He immediately set to work helping develop internal architecture, fixing bugs, creating tools, and more. Victor himself is no stranger to creativity, using his talent to help his family's Chinese food restaurant. "I've always enjoyed working on small projects on my own," Victor said. "When I saw a chance to improve on the daily operations at the restaurant, I took it." Through pure ingenuity, he created an application to better help tabulate orders and increase the efficiency of the restaurant's existing order system.
His passion and brilliance were hard to miss – he continued to be asked back for three more co-op terms at SimplyCast before joining the team full-time. From prototyping system integration into CRMs to continually identifying new ways to improve on existing applications, Victor's hard work helped to grow the company he first came to as a student looking to learn.
Now, Victor resides in Ottawa where he continues to work and thanks SimplyCast for allowing him to develop his skills. "While working at SimplyCast, I learned how to be effective in a fast-pace environment while managing multiple projects," Victor said. "Those skills are so valuable in any company and it really gave me a head start as a professional."
Today his list of accomplishments shows no sign of stopping and we look forward to any chance he gets to drop in to our office. From all of us at SimplyCast, thank you for sharing your diligence and skill with us, Victor.
