You may have heard the news last week that Yahoo and other email programs using DMARC, or Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting & Conformance, will no longer accept email messages that have a yahoo.com address as their sender address but do not originate from Yahoo's servers. DMARC is intended to reduce spam and dangerous email messages, and you can read more about DMARC here.
AOL has now made the same move. Read all about the AOL changes here. This means that if you use an AOL address as your sender address, your emails will be likely to bounce or be flagged as spam, seriously affecting your deliverability. For this reason, we strongly advise you to choose a different sender address.
What is a sender address or From address? It is the email address that appears to your subscribers, letting them know who sent the email. Many spammers use a false sender address in order to trick recipients into opening the email.
If you currently use an AOL address as your sender address, you can change it to an alternative address by logging in to your SimplyCast account and accessing the Email application. When creating your Email campaign, you can change your sender address on the "Schedule" step by selecting a different email address under the "Sender Email Address" section.
Updating your sender address will help you avoid interruptions or issues with your sending. If you do not have an alternative to your AOL email address, please contact our customer care team at 866.323.6572, ext. 2 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
You can still send email campaigns using a Gmail or Hotmail address, and it's even better to send from your own domain (email@example.com). Having a From address that comes from your own domain builds credibility and brand consistency, and helps increase email open rates. To learn more, please contact our customer care team. We are here to help and we want to ensure the highest possible delivery rates for your email campaigns.
