In September 2011, a new Canadian Anti-Spam Law for email marketing, Bill C-28, will be put into place for person(s) sending any type of electronic communication, including but not limited to; email, SMS, VoIP and fax. This law will require marketers to send to opted-in lists, provide a method and explanation on how to opt-out, include legitimate contact information, and remain valid for a minimum of 60 days after the email has been sent.
We know that most of you are doing that already but just in case you are not, you have to get your ducks in a row or pay the penalty.
This law is similar to the United States Can-Spam 2003 law, which also requires that unsubscribes are processed within 10 days. Also, harvesting and dictionary attacks of email addresses are absolutely prohibited.
