Use Social Media as a Communication Tool

Use the town, city or police Facebook and Twitter pages to provide ongoing crisis updates. Sending updates to those on your emergency notification list is great. But you can go one step further and use the power of social media to extend the message beyond the center of the crisis. This would benefit surrounding areas and those interested in volunteering after the emergency. Spread the information as wide as possible when looking for people to help and provide valuable information that pertains to the emergency.
