While each signup form has its own purpose, there are a number of general rules that should be followed when designing forms. Try and keep these in mind when designing your form to get the most out of your efforts!

  • Keep it short: Most users have an attention span of roughly eight seconds before they begin to wonder if this is worth their time. Try collecting necessary information now, and follow up later to get the less-critical information to encourage more initial sign ups.
  • Be clear: If you can help it, aim to answer any questions the recipient may have right on the form. You can use the label tool to add additional notes for the user.
  • Explain what it is: Try to include, at the very least, a brief description on the form itself explaining what the user is signing up for.
