As a business person or online marketer, we know you have heard of B2B and B2C marketing, but do you know the difference when it comes to email marketing?

First of all, B2B refers to business-to-business marketing and B2C refers to business-to-consumer marketing. Next, we look at the differences.

Purpose of Email Marketing

B2B

The main reason for B2B email marketing is for lead generation. In non-marketing terms, what it means is that each email sent out is a connection between your business and the one you're contacting, with the end goal of doing business together.

B2C

With B2C email marketing, the entire point is to generate sales. Though it may sound crass and self-serving, that is truly the reason why this form of email marketing exists: to drive customers to buy. Whether the email is a new promotion or a product launch, every inch of it is devoted to generating sales.

Reason for Email Marketing Sign Up

B2B

As mentioned previously, one of the main differences between B2B and B2C email marketing is the reason behind it. With B2B email marketing, it is the information that drives the recipient to sign up. One company holds the keys to the other's success, and it is usually in the form of white papers, eBooks or daily tips. At this point, no money exchanges hands; rather, the hope is that the information is so valuable that the leads will want to hire the company outright to do whatever it is they do.

B2C

There's no good way to say this, but the reason why customers sign up for email marketing is to get their grubby little hands on promotions or exclusive deals. Customers know that to get promotional codes, they need to give company's their email addresses. Plain and simple.
