Halifax CoC and SimplyCast Business Digitization Project

Halifax CoC and SimplyCast Business Digitization Project

September 24, 2020

September 24, 2020 - Halifax, NS – Today, the Halifax Chamber of Commerce and SimplyCast are thrilled to announce their business digitization project to support local businesses. The program will be available to all Halifax Chamber members beginning this fall.

Businesses reopening after COVID-19 are facing new constraints and challenges, including public health guidelines, which necessitate additional procedures that add complexities to the way business is conducted and customers are processed. In addition, businesses will need to adjust strategies to secure customers and supply chains in response to changes in market conditions.

“The Halifax Chamber plans to implement this project to digitize businesses to support efficient reopening, recovery, and return to sustainability,” says Patrick Sullivan, President & CEO of the Halifax Chamber of Commerce. “The Chamber has been a resource for its members during the pandemic and the Business Recovery Digitization Strategy is the next phase of the Chamber’s involvement in supporting its members during COVID-19.”

The goal of the Digitization Strategy is to provide members with best practices, strategies and business tools they need to safely operate and thrive in the new environment.

“Here at SimplyCast, we are very excited to be able to work with the Chamber to provide access to unique digital solutions to businesses in Halifax,” said Saeed El-Darahali, President and CEO of SimplyCast. “Supporting the recovery plan and providing business with access to digital infrastructure through an innovative partner is key to allowing for a smoother reopening of our province.”

The Digitization Strategy involves providing the following components to all its members as a program:

  • Best practices for safe reopening and operating business
  • Strategies for adapting to new environment/opportunities
  • Digital business tools and workflow automation software
  • Recovery-specific automation use cases
  • Member Training on practices, strategies and tools

The Government of Canada, through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, is supporting this project with a $199,000 non-repayable contribution from the Regional Relief and Recovery Fund (RRRF).

“Main Street businesses are facing serious challenges because of COVID-19,” said Andy Fillmore, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Infrastructure and Communities and Member of Parliament for Halifax, on behalf of the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages. “Businesses that take advantage of digital opportunities to improve customer service will be in the best position to succeed in our economic recovery.”

“The Government of Canada is delighted to support Dartmouth’s SimplyCast and the Halifax Chamber of Commerce on this initiative,” added Darren Fisher, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Health and Member of Parliament for Dartmouth-Cole Harbour. “We know that this pandemic has been tough on Nova Scotian businesses, but it hasn’t broken their entrepreneurial spirit or eagerness to help others. As companies like SimplyCast step up to assist, our government will continue to be there every step of the way to support local businesses and help people get back to work.”

Representing 1,700 businesses and over 65,000 Members, the Halifax Chamber of Commerce is committed to advocating for the conditions in the economy that enhance our members’ prosperity.
