These acts are federally mandated requirements to ensure areas under federal jurisdiction are accessible to people with disabilities.

Section 508 was added to the Rehabilitation Act to address the workplace needs of disabled workers when it comes to the use of electronic and information technology. Section 508 regulations are designed to ensure equal access to any user, regardless of disability, to any federally affiliated piece of technology, such as a website or software.
The Accessible Canada Act came into effect in June 2019 and aims to have more consistent accessibility for all federally related areas, including information and communication technology. The Accessible Canada Act is applicable to federal employees and staffers as well as citizens accessing federal resources.
